Spring Time at the MTC

This week has been really great! It's been really nice and sunny and warm, so Sister Anderson and I have been studying outside a lot. We both got a nice little sister missionary tan line :)

Sunday I gave a talk about faith...in Chinese. It was actually really funny. I thought for sure last week that I was going to be giving a talk and I was way nervous, but they didn't end up calling on me (everyone prepares a 3-5 min talk every week and then they just call on random people right there in sacrament meeting). So this week the zone leaders asked me to give the closing prayer, so I thought I was going to be off the hook of giving a talk because they don't have people pray and give a talk. So I'm sitting there in the second row right in the center and he announces that I will be giving a talk. I get all panicked and turn to Sister Anderson, and he just keeps talking and announces the closing prayer and then he is like, wait a second. Sister Fuller, I didn't know you were giving the closing prayer! I usually check the paper so we don't have any repeats. haha it was funny. Then he was kind of just thinking out loud trying to figure out what to do and said that maybe I could do both. And then he asked someone else to say the prayer, but he asked me what I wanted to do. I told him that I thought I was off the hook for giving a talk, but that I would do whatever he asked me to. Apparently that was funny because everyone laughed. Anyway, I ended up giving the talk, and the branch president complimented me on my tones and pronunciation at least twice throughout the day, which makes me feel good because he is a tone nazi. haha! It was pretty scary. I also had my departing interview on Sunday! I can't believe I'm leaving! Ah! One of the things he asked me in my departing interview was what I have learned the most or the biggest thing I can take from my time here at the MTC. It is for sure to rely on my Savior. I have learned so much about Him and strengthened my relationship more than I thought I could, and I am so thankful for that. Really, that is all anyone needs. Without Him I am nothing, and through Him I can become everything.

I am really excited to leave. I know I don't know nearly enough Chinese, but I know that as I work my hardest, the Lord will make up the difference. It is His work, so there is no reason for Him not to. My faith and trust in Him has grown a lot in the past 8 weeks, and I know that it will only continue to get stronger as I fly out to Taiwan and am expected to communicate with the people there. I can't wait!

Ah! I just love being a missionary!

I absolutely LOVE Sister Anderson. I have the best companion in the entire world. She was just made coordinating sister (like the relief society president) on Sunday! No one was surprised, she is amazing. I'm not sure if President Baker does this with everyone, but when he called her to the position he called me in at the same time. He said it was a hard decision and that he wishes we were here longer so that I could have the chance to have the leadership position as well. And then he complimented us for having such a great companionship. We really do have a great companionship, and we both feel that this won't be the only time we will be companions. I'm excited and hope that when I know the language a little better we will be put together again. We can do so much good together, we just know it.

So...last week after I emailed you guess who came to the MTC? Elder M. Russell Ballard! It was so cool! We were all singing prelude songs in the giant auditorium and then he walked in and everyone stood up and it was silent and the spirit testified that he is an apostle of the Lord. It was the coolest thing ever. I love the MTC! We get to hear from really awesome people all the time and we are always studying the gospel and strengthening our testimonies and it is just the best place in the world. And its getting so big! Especially with all the sisters! My first couple weeks here, at relief society we would only fill up a small portion of the auditorium and now it is almost entirely full! It is so amazing! Ah! I just love being a missionary!

Sister Fuller & Sister Anderson

Sister Anderson and I were walking out of the temple and kind of waved at this women sitting by the fountain. We both slowed down, looked at each other, then turned around to go talk to her. It was a 72 year old Tongan women and she talked our ear off for an hour! In the freezing cold February wind. It was really great though and she had some really great stories. She reminded us that we will get rejected by some people, but that it's okay because Christ was rejected and so it only makes sense that we will be rejected as well.
